Marshall Dempster currently resides in Kamloops, B.C. with his wife and two children. While he enjoys outdoor activities in all seasons, his true calling is found during the winter months. Marshall grew up on the prairies of central Alberta, but he knew his place in life was deep in the snow-covered mountains.
His mountain-life journey has taken many twists and turns over the last 26 years, touching almost all aspects of the snow and avalanche professions. Marshall honed his snow safety and snow management skills as a member of the Marmot Basin professional ski patrol team while spending his off days competing on the Freeskiing World Tour.
Later, Marshall became a fulltime avalanche forecaster and a member of the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association with his furry co-worker Bandit. Marshall also worked with numerous ground search and rescue teams across the province of B.C.
Looking for a change of pace and almost completely by chance Marshall found his purpose, sharing his many years of experience and knowledge working in the avalanche industry. It was during this time where Marshall also found his love of snowmobiling and guiding backcountry snowmobile adventures. Together these two industries allowed him to develop his teaching abilities and build a strong backcountry guiding clientele.
More recently, Marshall has contributed to the development of snowmobile specific curriculum for Avalanche Canada. He is also a founding member of the Canadian Motorized Backcountry Guides Association (CMBGA) which is a newly formed, and first of its kind, organization dedicated to setting industry standards and offering training courses for snowmobile-based guides. Marshall currently sits on the CMBGA board of directors as well as the technical committee. He has been the lead avalanche awareness educator for BRP for the last 9 years, facilitating avalanche awareness seminars across Canada.
